A solid dental health regimen is key to overall well-being. Brushing

Invest in a toothbrush with a timer to prompt you after each 30-second interval.

Scrape your tongue with a dedicated tongue-scraping tool, or simply use dental floss to gently scrape the tongue. As for the best toothbrush for the job, dentists recommend a soft bristle toothbrush that you replace often. Be sure not to use any brush that is too stiff and that could damage your tooth enamel.  

Flossing 

We have all heard about the importance of flossing- when is the best time? Ideally, you should floss at night, before you retire for the night, or when you typically brush for the final time of the day. This helps tease out any particles and bacteria lurking on or between the teeth.  

Don’t be stingy when it comes to dental floss; make sure to use adequately long pieces for a clean, fresh segment each time you floss between teeth. Some indicate that this may require a piece of floss that is around 18” in length.  

Rinsing 

Never underestimate the value of rinsing your mouth, too. Use your favorite mouthwash or mouth rinse and gargle or swoosh for around 30 seconds each time. Do not swallow the mouthwash. This is a great final step after brushing and flossing but is also a good way to get rid of bacteria after eating snacks or beverages throughout the day. Rinsing gives you a fresh mouth and nice breath between brushing, too. Don’t have mouthwash with you? Rinse your mouth thoroughly with plain water instead!

Finally, make sure that you visit your dentist a couple of times per year. There are few practices that can compare with seeing a dental professional for thorough cleanings and examinations- so schedule yours.
